The First evers in tech
The ones that started it all:
To
completely understand the technology of today, we first need to know
about the devices that started it all. From the worlds first computer to
the first ever laptop to the first ever mobile phone, we need to look
into everyone of these devices if we want to know how the smartphones
and laptops of today have become so advanced and analyze to how far can
we go if keep up this evolution of technology.
Worlds first computer:
In the Early 1900s
when world war 1 had ended, all the countries had realized that there
will be another war sooner or later and the winner of that war will be
the most technologically advanced country at the time. Gone were the
days of swords and horses and the world had entered in an era of
missiles and guns which hit their target with accuracy and precision,
and to achieve all this in 1938 the first ever computer in the world
called ENIAC Computer was invented. The main purpose of this
computer was to do calculations in minutes which took humans hours and
days to solve so that the American military could use it to calculate
the distance of their missile from the target, the angle to launch the
missile, and the speed at which it should be launched. Even though in
the beginning the computer was just a tool to be used only by the Army
of the most powerful country in the world, who knew that a few decades
later, it would be a common household item for everyone to use.
Worlds first ever laptop:
Decades
after the invention of the first ever computer, PCs had become much
more common and available to normal people at variable prices, but their
was one problem with the computer, its portability. To address this
issue many companies were trying to make the worlds first portable
computer and tried different form factors but none of them appealed to
the audience and their were a lot of problems with with either their
hardware or software . Then in 1981 a company called Osborne Computer Corporation released their portable computer called the Osborne 1(shown below) and it quickly gained popularity due to its relatively small form factor and its usability. The laptop
was designed as a progression from early portable computers which
typically
had a 'lunch bucket' like console that contained the CPU and monitor in
one part, and the keyboard was a cover that fastened in front of the
small form factor monitor. It was a usable and portable machine that
people had been demanding for decades and it would've been the most
impressive invention of the decade if not for motorola.
Wolds first Mobile:
In
the 1900s the world was changing and after world war 2, the landscape
of the world had changes considerably and with each passing year people
were demanding more and more accessibility and portability in technology
and companies were trying their best to meet the users demands so they
could sell their new inventions. Then in 1983 Motorola launched the Motorola Dynatac 8000X
(shown below). Unlike the smartphones of today this device only sent
and received calls like a telephones and couldn't even save the numbers
of whom we want to call. Far from a perfectly usable device with the
cost of 4000$, this device changes the world only because of its
portability. This phone allowed users to take it anywhere they want as
it was not attached to any kind of wire and gave ways to new ideas to
companies as to how we can improve on this device and as time progressed
and mobile phones evolved, the significance of this mobile increased
because if it wasn't for the first one, we would've never had the
smartphones of today.

The Effects:
If
we take a look at a Razer blade laptop or an Iphone or the PCs of today
we quickly realize that we wouldn't have any of these if it weren't for
the Osborne 1 or the ENIAC computer or the Motorola Dynatax that
started the idea of the words. For example, after the invention of
worlds first mobile phone, companies soon realized that they needed to
improve on this idea and make mobile phones which are more portable,
have more features and are less expensive to make. So many companies
then made mobile phones that could also send messages, save numbers, had
calculators, alarm clocks and games and phones like the Nokia 3310, and
the Motorola Razr burst into popularity and all of this ultimately led
to the invention of the original Iphone and the first ever android phone
and the in just half a century the world completely changed, all due to
the invention of the first one.
If
we analyze the change that the tech world has gone through , anyone can
easily draw the conclusion that technology has evolved a thousand years
in just a span of 50 to 60 years. We have gone from no portable devices
at all to pocket sized smartphones in every hand and laptops in every
bag. Folding phones and smart flip phones have already started to change
the tech world once again and technology like VR (virtual reality) is
proving to be yet another start to a new era of technology like the one
we saw in the later half of the 1900s.
