Iphone 12 : What we know

The first half of 2020 is over and the next half is shaping up to be a treat for tech enthusiast with the expected releases of smartphones like Samsung galaxy Note 20, One plus Nord, Samsung galaxy fold 2, Google Pixel 4A and 4XL, Sony Xperia pro, Lg Velvet and chief among them the Iphone 12.

After the release of Iphone 11 there were a lot of features that Apple users wanted to see in their smartphone which the android side of the world already had. Features like a 120Hz display, fast charging support, fingerprint scanners and a USB type C charging port were expected before the release of Iphone 11, but opposite to what everyone wanted, the Iphone 11 had none of these features and Apple users then set their sights on the release of Iphone 12 thinking that it might have some of these features if not all.

Does the Iphone 12 catch up to android in terms of features and harware? lets just take a look at the leaks and figure out if the Iphone 12 is really an upgrade or not.

What we know:

Design:

Apple smartphones are known for their premium feel in hand but if seen on the outside, they look a little bit outdated mainly because of the huge notch on the screen in an era of small hole punch cameras and full screens with pop up cameras. Apple claims to have this big a notch so that it can fit all the sensors and camera required for a better face ID protection and this year seems no different.

As can seen in the image Apple is still keeping the front notch that holds the selfie camera and the face ID sensors. The back of the Iphone 12 looks awfully similar to the precious Iphone 11 pro with the inclusion of a forth camera sensor which is rumoured to be Lidar sensor preciously seen in the latest 2020 Ipad pro. Moreover the back is still made up of glass and the sides of the phone are still metal similar to previous generation Iphones that give this phone its premium feel.

The main upgrade that people wanted was a type C charging port so that they can have one charger for every device, but this does not seem to be the case in the Iphone 12 as it is still said to come with a lightning port. This is a polarizing choice from Apple, as a type C port is more universal and can provide faster charging speeds as compared to a lightning port but Apple is keen on keeping the lightnig port for charging. Oh and if it wasn't clear already, there's no headphone jack.

Features:

The features of the Iphone 12 are more or less the same as previous generation Iphones. with a little bit of software and harware upgrades here and there. The new Iphone is said to come with 6gb RAM and the latest IOS 14.1 and a new Lidar Sensor. The cameras are expected to be a little better than Iphone 11 which already had one of the best smartphone cameras ever.

The biggest upgrade that the Iphone 12 is receiving is the inclusion of an A14 bionic chip which is faster and better than the A13 bionic on the Iphone 11. This is said to be the fastest chipset in a mobile equivalent to Snapdragon 865+ on the android side and is one of the main selling points of the phone.

What's in the box?

Apple is not known for handing out accessories in the box for free but this years they're taking it one step further. Normally an Iphone box contains the phone itself, a 5 watt charging brick, a paid of air pods, a lightning cable and some stickers. Well this year there will be no charging brick and air pods in the box rather Apple is now selling these accessories seperately. On the up side, the box will be thinner and more exquisite looking that before, so that's a plus point.

Variants And Their Prices:

Last year Apple launched three variants of their Iphone which included Iphone 11, 11 pro and 11 promax. In september this year it is rumoured to launch four variants with difference in size, price and some minor difference in specs, camera and battery departments. The rumoured variant names and prices of Iphone 12 are as follows:

Iphone 12 (5.4'') : 649$

Iphone 12 Max (6.1'') : 749$

Iphone 12 pro (6.1'') : 999$

Iphone 12 pro max (6.7'') : 1099$

Conclusion:

Iphones are not known for their over the top specs and eye-catching designs and that divides a lot of people, rather apple always keep is simple both in terms of hardware and software. This year is no different as Apple has yet again added some new features like the more powerful A14 bionic chip and a Lidar sensors and removed some accessories like the charging brick and air pods with an increase in price. To be clear these are all just rumours, leaks and speculations and names things can be changed between now and september.
